A Delhi court on Wednesday asked CBI to respond to a plea of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in the 2G spectrum scam, seeking permission to attend the general body meeting of Etisalat DB, a joint venture firm between UAE-based Etisalat and his D B Realty group.
Special CBI judge O P Saini took Balwa's application on record and directed the CBI to file its response by Thursday, on his plea to attend the extraordinary general meeting of Etisalat DB, on June 15, in Mumbai.
His lawyer submitted that Balwa, who is a shareholder of Etisalat DB, will attend the meeting in judicial custody and will bear all expenses, including travel expenses.
Balwa has been chargesheeted for conspiring with government officials and former telecom minister A Raja in the grant of 2G licences, as well as, giving bribe to DMK-run Kalaignar TV.
He also moved another application seeking direction to Tihar Jail authorities to allow him to undergo an MRI scan. The court asked the jail superintendent to consider Balwa's plea positively, as per the report of doctors of DDU hospital.
