The CBI believes that subsidiary companies of Shahid Balwa’s DB Realty — linked to Swan Telecom — had allegedly paid huge amount of cash as kickbacks to a real estate company owned by Sadhick Batcha, an aide of former telecom minister A Raja.
The alleged kickback — “the second instance of such quid pro quo between Swan Telecom Private Limited and alleged associates of Raja — was paid to the Chennai-based real estate company of Batcha, Green House Promoters Private Limited,” according to a CBI source.
“An accused arrested by us in the case, Rajiv Aggarwal, was involved in the payment of heavy cash to Green House Promoters Private Limited but he has been evasive so far about the circumstances in which this payment was made,” said the source. CBI had detected another suspected kickbacks were paid while allocating spectrum and licence — R200 crore paid by firms linked to Swan Telecom such as Kusegaon Fruits & Vegetables and Cineyug — to a bank account held by Kalaignar TV between December 2008 and August 2009, according to the source.
SC: hand over batcha case to CBI in 3 days
The Supreme Court on Monday gave three days time to the Centre for handing over the probe of Sadhick Batcha’s death. Batcha (38), a close aide of former telecom minister A Raja, was quizzed by the CBI in connection with the 2G scam and was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his home in Chennai on March 16. His wife had claimed he committed suicide as he was “unable to cope with the pressure” of the probe.
