A 25-year-old bank employee has been arrested along with five others for allegedly robbing Rs 27 lakh from a car on a busy road in Rajinder Nagar of central Delhi, police said.

The Honda City car belonged to a Paschim-Vihar-based building contractor.

The bag containing cash was kept in the boot of the car, police said.

Police said the accused purchased property and a scooter from the looted amount within a day of the incident.

The six accused have been identified as Rajneesh Kundan, bank employee; Rajat Seth, the car's driver, Shriprakash and Pawan Singh, property dealers; Brijmohan Kumar and Satnam Kumar, the businessman’s employees. The accused are in their mid-twenties.

The incident took place on September 24 when a Honda City car with Rs 27 lakh kept in its boot was on way to Lodhi Colony in south Delhi to deposit the cash, police said.

Seth who has been working for the past eight month for the businessman provided the information to Kundan— a field officer with a private bank.

On the day of the incident, Seth along with Brijmohan and Satnam left the Paschim Vihar office of their employer to deposit the cash in the bank at Lodhi Colony, police said.

As part of a pre planned conspiracy, Seth opened the boot of the car when it reached a traffic intersection point on Ramnath Vij Marg in Rajinder Nagar.

“Kundan, who works for Kotak Mahindra Bank, was following the car on his motorcycle. The accused were in touch with each other on mobile phones,” said Jaspal Singh, deputy commissioner of police (central).

“On getting a call from Seth, Kundan drove close to the boot of the car, took out the bag and fled away,” said Singh. Police said Seth knew Kundan through a common friend.

Kundan wanted to make quick money so he allegedly hatched a conspiracy with Seth and others to rob the cash.

Police said they have recovered Rs 10 lakh from the accused.

“We have also recovered property documents worth Rs 10.5 lakh from the accused,” Singh said.

A case has been registered at the Rajinder Nagar police station.
