The mysterious godman who allegedly played a major role in hatching the conspiracy to murder real estate tycoon Deepak Bhardwaj did not even seek a confirmation from the goons he had hired to gun him down in cold blood.

‘Swamiji’ had apparently told his hired guns Purushotttam Rana and Sunil Mann that he was sure he would get to know whether or not the job was done through newspapers the next day. So, they should rather concentrate on staying out of jail instead of getting in touch with him.

“Swamiji, according to Rana, had told him and Sunil Mann not to get in touch with him to avoid getting detected. The duo were told to execute the hit, avoid getting caught and promised that they would be paid their dues in a week or two,” said an officer.

Meanwhile, even as two to three police teams conducted raids in Haridwar to apprehend the godman in question, a computer and some documents belonging to him were recovered from a chamber located in the Mandir Marg office of the Hindu Mahasabha. He had stayed there in February this year.

Police also claimed to have recovered the country-made and sophisticated revolver used by the accused duo to execute the hit from the Jhajjar canal. The police had accompanied Rana and Mann to the spot where they had allegedly disposed them.

“Call detail records weaned from the phone of Rana had established that he was in touch with the Swami only till the fortnight in the run up to the incident,” said an officer.

Police are currently questioning one of Bhardwaj’s lawyers whom he had hired to represent him in three to four cases of property dispute.

“Investigation is underway and no one, including his family members, has been given a clean chit so far,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
