Indian Mujahideen’s chief of India operations Yasin Bhatkal had allegedly spent Rs 3 lakh to make a bomb for blasts orchestrated by him, according to his close aide late Qateel Siddiqi’s revelations.
Siddiqui, Bhatkal’s associate and co-accused in the February 2010 blast at Pune’s German Bakery and the April 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts in Bangalore, had been tasked by the latter to plant a bomb at Pune’s revered Dagdu Seth temple located near a vegetable market in February 2010, said a counter-terror source.
“Yasin took Qateel to do a survey of the targeted area. The terror plot failed two days later as Qateel could not hand over the bomb to a flower seller, as planned, and later dumped the bomb in the sea,” said the source.
“When the duo met again a day later, near Jhansi, Yasin asked Qateel about the fiasco in Pune. When told that Qateel had dumped the defused bomb in the sea, perhaps off the Bandra-Worli Sealink Bridge, Yasin was furious,” said the source. Bhatkal had promised to give Rs 50, 000 to Siddiqui for the planting of the bomb.
