Two bike-borne assailants allegedly shot at a 24-year-old man in southeast Delhi’s Okhla Mandi area on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the victim, Vicky is out of danger as the bullet grazed his shoulder. A case of attempt to murder has been registered in the matter.

Sonu, a cab driver at a call centre, was returning home after duty hours when he accidentally hit a cart at Okhla Mandi in New Delhi. After this he had a heated argument with the vendor. “The duo had an argument and after a brief scuffle, the vendor snatched the car key from the cab driver’s hand and fled. Sonu tried to run behind him but he was cornered by other local vendors. He was reportedly thrashed by four-five of them before he managed to escape leaving his car behind,” a police officer said.

Sonu then went to his room and narrated the episode to his friend, Vicky, seeking help to get his car back. “Vicky and Sonu then went back to the mandi. But as they reached the area, the traders recognised Sonu and again cornered the duo,” police said.

As the two tried to resist, two men on a bike whipped out a pistol and opened fire. While Sonu ducked and saved himself, Vicky was hit by the bullet,” police said.

Vicky was taken to the hospital but was later discharged. An eyewitness told HT, “The two men were having a fight with the local vendors. Suddenly, we heard a thud and everyone started dispersing. Two men on a bike opened fire and fled.”

The police have accessed the CCTV footage of the area and are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused.
