In another incident involving bikers, a Delhi Police constable was shot at by three motorcycle-borne youths in the Khichripur area of East Delhi on Saturday night.
According to police, Constable Shridhar Geete was on his routine patrol duty near block number 8, Khichripur. “He had left the Kalyan Puri Police Station at 10pm in an auto rickshaw. He was assigned to check vehicles. Around midnight, he noticed three youths coming on a motorcycle and asked them to stop for routine checking. Instead of stopping, the three youths started accelerating,” said a senior police officer.
Geete jumped in front and forced them to stop. He started questioning them, which started an argument. One of them then whipped out a pistol and fired. Two bullets hit his thigh and the other grazed his abdomen,
Geete then took out his service revolver and fired back at the youths. He managed to shoot one of them, one Manoj Kumar, who fell from the motorcycle. The others managed to escape.
Geete informed Kalyan Puri Police Station about the incident on his wireless who rushed him and the Kumar to Balaji hospital. Kumar, who received a bullet injury in the thigh was later referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
According to police, Geete has been operated and is under observation. But his condition is otherwise stable.
Kumar is a known Bad Character from the Karawal Nagar area and has been involved in many criminal cases.
“We have registered a case of attempt to murder and a case of obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions against the three accused. We are investigating why they fired at the slightest provocation. We have recorded Manoj’s statement. He also gave the identity of the other two accused,” said a senior police officer.
The police raided their houses but could not find the two accused.
