In yet another case of brazen road rage, a group of drunks on motorcycles pulled a man out of his car, thrashed him mercilessly and threatened to throw him off the busy Lodhi Road flyover on Sunday evening. The incident happened at 7.30 pm, as hundreds of vehicles zipped past.

The thugs smashed the car windows of Vivek Bhandari, a 42-year-old lawyer from Chandigarh, and made off with two mobile phones, the car stereo and Rs 10,000.

Bhandari, who practises at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said in his complaint to the police that he was attacked after he stopped when one of the two motorcycles hit his vehicle. The police said it was not a planned crime with an intention to rob. “Their vehicles hit each other, which resulted in an altercation leading to a scuffle,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anil Shukla told Hindustan Times.

In his complaint Bhandari said: “Some boys on motorcycles started abusing me. One of the motorcycles hit my car. I stopped my car and parked on the left side of the road. They were hitting me and tried to throw me off the flyover but I managed to run to the other side of the road and saved my life.” Bhandari has told the police he can identify his attackers.

The Nizamuddin police station have registered an FIR. “We are investigating and trying to trace the location of the mobile phones. We can arrest them,” said a senior police officer.
