A trip with four friends to Murthal in Haryana to eat 'paranthas' on his birthday proved to be the last trip for a 22-year-old businessman. The car they were travelling in crashed into a roadside tree in outer Delhi's Narela.
Police said the accident took place at 5.25pm on Wednesday on the Narela-Bawana road. The friends of the deceased were also injured.
The deceased, who has been identified as Rajesh Bhatia, ran a business in Karol Bagh and stayed with his family in Sector 17, Rohini.
Bhatia's friends-Rajesh Rawat, Sumit, Kapil and Ravi Tiwary sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in two different government hospitals. While Sumit and Kapil, who are a in critical condition, are undergoing treatment at Jaipur Golden Hospital, the other two are recuperating at Maharishi Valmiki Hospital.
A senior police officer said that the victims were headed towards Murthal in a Hyundai i-10 car to celebrate Bhatia's birthday.
"Sumit was driving the car while Bhatia was seated next to him on the passenger seat. On the way, Sumit lost control over his speeding vehicle and it rammed straight into a roadside tree near Bharat Mata School. The impact of the crash was so powerful that Bhatia and Sumit suffered serious injuries. Bhatia died on his way to the hospital," said the senior police officer.
A case in this connection has been registered against Sumit and the i-10 car has also been impounded.
