A BJP councillor contesting the April 15 MCD elections and two others were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a rival ticket aspirant to death after a clash at the Azadpur railway station the previous night.

"Councillor Madhav Prasad, his driver Manoj and Anil Yadav were arrested for the murder of Jai Prakash Yadav," said Ashok Chand, additional CP (crime and railways).

Yadav was a ticket aspirant from the Sangam Park ward that Prasad is contesting from. According to residents, this was the second time Yadav had been denied a ticket by the BJP.

Police said a clash broke out after Yadav interfered in a meeting called by Prasad at a temple near the railway tracks around 11pm Tuesday.

"The clash between over a dozen people spilled on to the platform. Yadav was stabbed several times and declared dead on being taken to hospital," a police officer said.

Prasad has been sent to judicial custody till April 24. Police also arrested Virender, from Yadav's group, for assaulting Prasad's driver. A hunt is on for his associates Balram and Santosh.
