The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pulling out all stops to ensure that the September 29 rally of Narendra Modi is a big success.

According to sources, the party has formed a committee to oversee work related to the rally and campaign rigorously to ensure a huge turnout.

Senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta is the convenor of the committee while Rajesh Gehlot, Pawan Sharma, Jai Prakash, Master Azad Singh, Jai Bhagwan and Ram Kishan Singhal have been appointed as members.

The committee has already started organising meetings to discuss arrangements that need to be put in place and the amount of awareness that needs to be spread among the people about the rally.

“To make this event a success, our workers will go from door to door, informing people about the significance of this rally. Delhi elections are not just being fought on local issues. National issues like corruption, weak rupee, and price rise have started to affect Delhiites too. Modi will highlight all these and many other issues during the rally,” said a senior BJP leader.

The September-end rally assumes significance as it is being viewed by many as a stepping stone for the Parliamentary elections scheduled for next year.

“This rally will give a boost to our election campaign. Apart from looking at the logistics, the committee will ensure that a huge crowd turns up. The entire Delhi unit will take part,” said another leader.

Sources said posters of Modi have been put up across the city and in the coming days the party will intensify its publicity drive.

Senior BJP leaders said the party is hoping that the Modi magic will translate into more votes for them at the upcoming elections. The rally will be held at Japanese Park in Rohini.

“We are working on a war-footing to ensure the rally is a success,” said Vijender Gupta.

20 teams for polls

New Delhi: The BJP’s Delhi unit on Wednesday announced 20 committees to look after various aspects of the party in the assembly elections. The election manifesto committee of the party will be headed by senior BJP leader Harsh Vardhan.

The other committees include the finance committee that comprises five members and will have Nand Kishore Garg as convener. The publicity committee will be headed by serving councillor Ashish Sood.

The name of Leader of Opposition VK Malhotra is missing from all the committees.
