DESPITE THE temporary truce between the UPA and the Left over the controversial India-US nuclear agreement, the BJP is going full steam ahead with poll preparations.

The BJP’s central office-bearers on Saturday set up a committee under former party president M.Venkaiah Naidu to draw up a detailed election campaign programme and identify the prominent issues on which to take on the UPA.

The report will be presented at the BJP national executive meeting in Bhopal from September 21-23. The election strategy and preparations for possible Lok Sabha polls will be finalised at the crucial meet.

“We are ready to face a mid-term poll if it comes about,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar, after the central office-bearers’ meeting.

He said the UPA government’s “divisive” policies, especially the move to implement the Sachar Committee recommendations for the uplift of Muslims, will be among the party’s major poll issues.
