Senior BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu, Vijay Goel, VK Malhotra and Vijender Gupta were taken into preventive custody Tuesday evening when they took out ‘Mashaal Juloos’ against corruption and black money at Jantar Mantar.

Carrying ‘torches’ and candles, the group of senior party leaders along with hundreds of party workers marched to the Parliament House before they were detained by the police at Parliament Street.

They were released after some time.

“We were protesting against the totalitarian and dictatorial attitude of the UPA government,” said former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu. BJP leaders said the government’s attitude was reminiscent of the Emergency days when protesters were put behind bars and the press was muffled.

“The government’s action is a breach of fundamental rights and brutal killing of democratic rights,” leader of the Opposition in Delhi assembly VK Malhotra said.
