The BJP faces further isolation in the Opposition camp as more parties are willing to join the proposed Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the helicopter scam.
After Left, JD(U) ,Shiv Sena, the BJD has also announced it will join the panel.“I have spoken to chief minister and party leader Naveen Patnaik. If the JPC is formed, we will join it,” BJD’s chief whip Bhartruhari Mahtab told HT.
Another key opposition party, Trinamool Congress says that can’t rule out the possibility of joining the JPC now, although it had staged a walk out along with other parties when the motion to form the JPC was moved in Rajya Sabha last week.
“The question of our joining the JPC will be decided by our party supreme Mamata Banerjee,” Trinamool’s parliamentary party chief Sudip Bandopadhyay told HT.
The BJP rejected the government’s JPC offer and its ally JD(U) too, opposed formation of parliamentary probe panel.
A section of the Opposition demanded the Supreme Court’s monitoring of the ongoing CBI probe in the chopper scam. The government argued that it can’t ask the SC to monitor the probe.
Cong to oppose Raja’s deposition before JPC
The Congress is all set to stonewall former telecom minister A Raja’s demand to depose before the JPC on 2G scam. Even as Raja’s pitch finds backing from his own party DMK, BJP and CPI(M), the Congress fears that Raja may try to use the opportunity to try to drag finance minister P Chidambaram into the controversy.
