The BJP refrained from officially reacting to L K Advani's former personal security officer and senior cop Anju Gupta’s deposition against him before a special CBI court.

However, senior BJP leaders questioned her credibility as a witness.

BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, "She is just the ninth witness. There are 40 more witnesses to come. Cross-examination will take place. We have no political comment to make when the judicial process is on."

However, a senior leader said Gupta had changed her initial statement, and the contradictions would come out in cross-examination.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said this was the first direct witness testimony against Advani. "The entire country saw it… The case is now entering finality."

Spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "It is in the interest... secularism, which needs to be protected by bringing culprits to book."
