The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday claimed it was being deliberately targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after some of its members were detained by the police for putting up its political posters across the city.
An AAP spokesperson claimed the BJP was “using the Delhi Police as a puppet of the central government to shield its MLAs and their relatives involved in corruption cases and serious crimes”.
“The police are harassing our party workers for pasting posters on walls. They claim we are defacing the national Capital. But you take a walk across the city and one can see posters of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and BJP everywhere. So why is the BJP only targeting the Aam Aadmi Party?” said AAP leader Sanjay Singh.
The AAP said the role of Delhi Police in the ongoing students’ agitation against the UPSC was highly questionable. “Peacefully protesting students were brutally beaten up by police … even girl students were not spared,” said an AAP leader.
“Who ordered action against students? Why no probe has been ordered by the central government so far?”
As reported by HT on Sunday, the party has decided to hold a rally at Jantar Mantar on August 3 to put pressure on the ruling BJP and call for fresh elections.
