The state BJP on Monday demanded amnesty for all illegal constructions existing in the city till June this year and asked the Centre to change the Master Plan to give them permanent legal status.
“Why is the government leaving the sword hanging over the heads of those who carried out illegal construction after February 8, 2007? If they can accommodate the illegal constructions till February, why can’t they cover those done till June 2013,” Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said. He also said that the urban development ministry should change the Master Plan Delhi 2021 to accommodate the constructions.
The Union government had cleared a special legislation in 2006, offering amnesty to thousands of illegal constructions that were in line to be sealed or razed in Delhi. The Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act was passed by Parliament in May 2006, and has been extended several times. The latest extension is valid till December 31, 2014.
In its House meeting on Monday, the South corporation passed a resolution in tune to this instruction. “The Delhi government and Centre should regularise all the illegal construction till June 30, 2013 in the newly regularised colonies,” South Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Sarita Chaudhary said.
The North civic body, too, in its House meeting on Tuesday is expected to pass a similar resolution.
