Scoffing at the BJP, Congress on Wednesday said it was destined to sit on the opposition benches as it would fail to reach even the three-digit-mark.
"BJP is once again destined to occupy the opposition benches in Parliament as a shrunken party which will fail to even reach the three-digit-mark," Congress National spokesperson Ashwani Kumar said in a statement.
His remarks came a day after BJP mocked at AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi's claim that Congress will form a government with the support of the Left and new allies.
Kumar said the BJP's "blinkered vision" of the ground reality of its shrinking political base across the country and its refusal to accept the withering away of the NDA alliance is both comic and ironic. He said BJP has lost 24 of its allies because of its "pernicious" political agenda.
"The 2009 vote will see a crushing defeat of the communal and divisive forces," Kumar said adding Congress and its allies will give to the country a stable and secular government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
