A day after MCD election results 2017 were announced, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal met AAP councillors and asked them to take an oath not to leave the party. The Aam Aadmi Party won 48 seats in the MCD

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday warned AAP councillors that the BJP will try to poach them since anti defection law does not apply to municipal corporations, a day after the results of the MCD elections were announced.

The Aam Aadmi Party managed to win only 48 seats with the BJP winning 181 seats with clear majority in all three municipal corporations.

“There is no anti defection law in MCD, so the BJP leaders would try to poach you. You must always keep your phones on recording mode. If somebody tries to lure you, record it, we will expose them in a press conference,” Kejriwal was seen telling the newly elected councillors in a video released by AAP.

“Where you are going (MCD) is a den of corruption. Be alert to corruption around you. Raise your voice against it. They might even jail you since the police is with them. Don’t be afraid of anything. Let honesty and courage be your guiding principles,” he said.

The appeal comes on a day when AAP was in turmoil with several party leaders resigning over the MCD election debacle.

The AAP national convener said a betrayal to the party would be a betrayal to god since AAP was born out of a movement against corruption. “It is a sacred movement. If you will betray the people or the faith of the people you will never be happy, doesn’t matter how much money you earn. God will punish you.”

“So many have sacrificed and it is because of them that we are here. Had it not been for their hard work, it would not have been possible for a new party to achieve this kind of success,” Kejriwal said.

He told the councillors they must ensure that the sacrifices made for AAP by the volunteers must not go waste.

“Volunteers are the spine of our party, take care of them. Their legitimate demands must be taken care of. You should care for those who sought votes for you,” he said.

Kejriwal ended the meeting by asking the councillors to take a pledge not to betray the “sacred movement”.
