Hundreds of BJP workers on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration at the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyway demanding scrapping of the toll plaza.

BJP workers vandalized the toll plaza letting thousands of vehicles pass through it without paying the charges.

Over 300 BJP workers gathered on the flyway around 9am amidst heavy police bandobast and staged protest till 12:30pm disrupting the movement of vehicles on the high-speed road.

They were demanding that the toll collected for using the road should be done away as the operator of the 9.2 km long flyway (including the Mayur Vihar link) has already made significant profits.

The DND Flyway connects Delhi on the west bank of the Yamuna with Noida and East Delhi.

Noida Toll Bridge Company Ltd (NTBCL) has been operating the Flyway on 'Build Operate Own Operate Transfer' (BOOT) basis since February 2011.

NTBCL assistant vice president Anwar A Abbasi said the irate protesters broke seven booms installed at the toll plaza. “Nearly 8,000 vehicles went past the booths without paying the toll despite heavy police deployment,” he said.

When asked whether any FIR has been filed against the protestors, Abbasi said,“The chief executive officer of the company is being consulted for further course of action.”
