Vishal Aggarwal (33) and Virender Singh Negi (39) who volunteered to donate blood to a stranger on ‘Blood Donor Day’ earlier this month may not have craved for recognition. But on Friday, they were felicitated for their noble gesture by the Indian Red Cross Society.

Hindustan Times reported on June 14 how they took out time and money to rush to Apollo Hospital to save a stranger’s life. Aggarwal and Negi were among 14 people who were felicitated in the presence of Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad.

“It feels good to be recognised for saving a life. A ‘shield’ was given to each one of us by the minister. I also got a certificate of appreciation from Apollo Hospital. It was really very motivating,” said Aggarwal, who runs a jewellery business in Karol Bagh. Aggarwal and Negi were the youngest among the donors being felicitated and that made them very special.

“It felt good, but we do not offer help to anybody to get recognised. It comes from the bottom of our heart. I feel more awareness should be created among people about blood donation,” said Negi, a resident of Noida.
