A Blueline bus went on a rampage in Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi on Saturday killing a motorcyclist and critically injuring two others. The driver dragged the motorcyclist for about 50 metres, it then hit a cycle-rickshaw and rammed into two cars after that. The bus driver has been arrested. Police said he was over speeding and was trying to jump a red light when the incident occurred.
The incident was reported at about 6.15 pm on Saturday at the crowded Ravi Dass Marg in Govindpuri on Saturday. The bus was plying between Dhaula Kuan and Govindpuri.
The motorcyclist, who was killed has been identified as Bala Ram (30). He was a resident of Tigri, who worked as a contractor and was on his way home when he was hit by the speeding bus from behind. One of his friends riding as a pillion passenger is admitted with critical injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
A cycle rickshaw puller was also injured. The condition of the two injured is said to be critical.
“Eyewitnesses told us that the bus was speeding and the bus driver could not control the speed and went on to hit a cycle rickshaw, a Santro and a Hyundai Accent car after that. The impact was such that the motorcycle was entangled in the front suspension of the bus,” said a senior police officer.
After the incident, the driver fled the scene but was arrested later on. A case of rash and negligent driving at the Govindpuri police station. Further investigations were on.
