The victim, 16-year old Pinky Saini, was a student of a government school behind Prabhu Dayal School in Shalimar Bagh. She was in Class X.

According to the police, the incident happened around 9:00 am. “The victim took a bus to her school. The driver did not stop and she had to literally jump out of the bus to get down. In the process, she fell and came under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot,” said a senior police officer.

The bus was running on route number 166 between Shalimar Bagh and Palika Bazaar.

The driver tried to speed away but was stopped by the motorists and the people inside the bus. Driver Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Alipore, was later arrested and taken into custody by the police. The police have filed a case against him and are conducting further investigations.

Her father Jagdish Chander Saini is an employee with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). They are the residents of Shalimar Gali, House No 131.
