BMW case - bar council issues notice to senior advocates

delhi Updated: Jun 02, 2007 19:38 IST

Bar Council of Delhi on Saturday issued show cause notices to senior advocates RK Anand and IU Khan, who were allegedly shown influencing a witness of the BMW case in a sting operation.

"A show cause notice has been issued to both Anand and Khan," KK Manan, chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi said.

They have been asked to reply by July 20, he said. The decision to issue the notices to the two lawyers was taken after an hour-long meeting in which 20 out of 25 of its members were present, Manan said.

The notice has been issued under Section 35 of the Advocates Act which deals with the professional misconduct committed by lawyers, Abhay Verma, BCD Secretary said.

Meanwhile, Manan and Verma said that three-member fact-finding committee appointed on Friday to look into the incident has been disbanded.

Manan said even the committee was of the unanimous view to send show cause notice to the noted lawyers.

He said that the committee had gone through the CDs of the sting operation. A committee comprising CL Sachdeva, Surya Prakash Khatri and RS Rana was constituted to inquire into the matter following the allegations levelled against fellow criminal lawyers in the expose.
