The middle-aged woman, whose nude and highly decomposed body was found inside the campus of LNJP hospital on April 25, had been gangraped twice by four persons before she was killed.
Although police are yet to identify the woman, they have managed to establish the sequence of events following the arrest of three of the four accused.
“So far, investigation has revealed that the woman had come to LNJP Hospital to meet a relative. That is when the four saw her and took her to a hospital toilet where they raped her. Then that they took her to Buddha Garden and raped her there too. They brought her again to LNJP and tried to rape her. When she resisted, they killed her and dumped the body,” a senior police officer said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Salman alias Chiman (24), Arif (26) and Mohammaed Yahiya (26). Salman works at a printing press in central Delhi, while Arif is a butcher and Yahiya is a vegetable-seller.
“We have evidence against these three. The fourth accused is absconding. We are trying to establish the identity of the woman,” said Devesh Srivastava, additional CP (Central).
The accused were arrested on Monday on a tip-off and during sustained interrogation, they confessed to the crime. The police are now trying to ascertain the woman’s identity.
Many families have approached them and police have decided to conduct a DNA test of a family from Jaitpur of southeast Delhi.
