Refusal to turn down the volume of the television ended up in the death of a 11-year-old boy in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area on Thursday night. His enraged brother-in-law attacked him and killed him with a stone.
The police said the incident was around 11 pm and its officials have identified the accused as 30-year-old Harichand, who they said was absconding.
“The victim’s parents, who are daily wage labourers, were away at the time of the incident. The boy was alone at his rented accommodation with Harichand, who was the husband of his distant relative,” said a senior police officer.
The family was working at a construction site in the area and stayed at a small, rented accommodation.
According to the police, initial questioning of the victim’s family members has revealed that Harichand used to frequently complain about the boy’s habit of watching television at a loud volume.
Around 11pm on Thursday night, the neighbours told the police, that the same thing happened again and claimed that they heard Harichand complaining and angrily asking his brother-in-law to lower the volume.
“The boy apparently didn’t listen to Harichand’s request. Harichand then first reprimanded and then physically assaulted the minor before pushing him out of the house and on to the street,” the officer said.
“Out on the street, Harichand, apparently in the heat of the moment, managed to get his hands on a rock lying near the door and began hitting the boy on his head, after pinning him down on the ground,” the officer added.
According to the police, the man later picked up the bleeding minor and took him inside the house before fleeing.
When the boy’s parents returned home later, they found the door locked.
The boy’s father then broke down the door and found the boy lying in the bedroom with blood gushing from his head.
“They then informed the police. A team rushed the boy to a local government hospital where he was declared dead,” the officer added. The police said they have registered a case of murder against Harichand and several teams have been formed to trace and arrest him.
