Broker steals trainee cop’s luggage, held

Delhi Police have arrested a real estate broker for stealing the luggage of an IPS probationer at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Sunday night. The accused, identified as Vikas Berry (35), had done hotel management and is currently in the real estate business. Police scanned CCTV footage and traced Berry.

“He was apprehended from a Mahipalpur hotel. The IPS probationer, S Karthik, was on his way to Ranchi to join duty when the incident took place,” RA Sanjeev, DCP (airport) said. Karthik, who is undergoing training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad arrived in Delhi from Hyderabad.

“On checking his luggage, he did not find the bag containing the IPS uniform and other articles, which was stolen by some one,” Sanjeev added.

After scrutiny of the CCTV footage, a special team was constituted. During investigations, many taxi drivers, passengers and airlines staff members were interrogated.

The driver of the Mega Taxi, which had dropped the accused to hotel Sapatgiri in Mahipalpur was identified and a raid conducted at the hotel, after which Berry, a native of Kolkata, was arrested.

Berry has completed a hotel management course from Mumbai and was engaged in the business of real estate brokerage after he lost his job three years ago.
