Two brothers, both in their twenties, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police for perpetrating several burglaries in south Delhi homes before setting them ablaze.
Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said Sanjay, 28, and his 23-year-old brother Ratan were arrested from south Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple on December 2, minutes before they could dispose off some stolen goods.
“A laptop, mobile phone and R36,000 in cash were recovered from their possession,” DCP Chand said. According to the police, in their early days, the brother lived in the slums of the Gautam Nagar area, near the Safdarjung Hospital and used to work as rag pickers.
“Later, they organised a gang with their associates Vishwajeet and Mahender and started committing burglaries at Kidwai Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, RK Puram and Kotla Mubarakpur. Sometimes, they also used to set fire after committing burglaries,” said DCP Chand.
While Sanjay has been involved in more than 26 cases of thefts, burglaries and even the Arms Act across three police stations, Ratan has been involved in 10 cases of theft and burglary, police said.
