With the first official movement of Commonwealth Games delegates and players being delayed by a few days, the Gurgaon administration has been saved huge embarrassment.

While authorities were intimated in advance that delegates were scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, the preparations for D-Day were far from satisfactory. HT conducted a reality check along the Games route and found potholed roads leading up to the CRPF Kadarpur shooting range, which will host an event.

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has not even put any road signs or guide maps.

Authorities have placed a sign to demarcate the reserved lanes on the Expressway, but no instructions or boards have been put up to guide tourists. The delegates’ convoy will take the right lane along the Expressway and take a left turn after IFFCO Chowk flyover but there is no signage directing people to take the turn.

“We will finish the work by this evening,” said the contractor.

Although it’s a smooth drive on the Expressway, potholes start appearing after the left turn from Signature Tower.

Till Kadarpur shooting range, the journey is a bumpy one.

The condition of roads is worse near the HUDA City Centre Metro station.

The next eyesore is the Sector 43-44 crossing where road repairs are still on with no regard to limited time before the Games.

Construction on this 100-metre stretch is still on and HUDA is running out of time. With debris still lying around, athletes would know the reality when they start pouring in sometime next week.
