A three-year-old boy was killed and six others suffered injuries when a portion of a two-storey building collapsed in Burari area of north Delhi on Sunday afternoon. Police said a woman was standing on the parapet of her first-floor house when it fell.
“Six children who were playing under it were suffered injuries. One of them, identified as Lucky, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” a senior police officer said. The woman who was standing on the parapet also suffered injuries.
“Raj Kumari was standing on the parapet when it fell. It was an old building,” the officer added. All the injured were rushed to ISBT trauma centre where Lucky succumbed to injuries. The others are said to be in a stable condition.
Police have taken the statement of the locals who claimed that the building is dangerous and a portion of it had fallen earlier also. “We always fear for our lives whenever we walk in front of this building,” Chandan Singh, a local said. “We have been asking the owner to get the repair work done but he didn’t listen,’ he added.
The injured children have been identified as Saloni (7), Ashish (8), Rahul (15), Pradeep (14) and Rajdeep (11), all residents of Burari. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered at the Burari police station.
“We have identified the owner and he will be arrested soon. Officers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been informed about the incident,” a senior police officer said.
