With the help of CCTV cameras installed by a Preet Vihar Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), Delhi Police have managed to bust a gang of burglars and arrested six people. The gang was involved in 16 burglaries in east Delhi areas.
“On October 14, a burglary was reported from a Preet Vihar house. The burglars had fled with a huge amount of cash and jewellery. But they had been caught on CCTV cameras installed outside the house by the RWA. During the course of investigation, CCTV footage was collected and scrutinised and we managed to bust the gang,” a senior police officer said.
On the basis of available photographs taken from the CCTV footage, the investigation team was able to identify one of the burglars as Har Prashad. “He was the first one to be arrested. We recovered one Rado wrist watch that had been stolen from that house, apart from gold and silver jewellery worth R3.5 lakh from him,” the officer added.
During interrogation, Prashad disclosed the names of his associates as Inder Pal, Bhukhan, Jamshed and Jaan Mohammed who were also caught.
Police have also arrested the receiver of their stolen goods. The gang members have bought 14 acres of land in their native village in UP from the stolen money, police said.
