BJP chief Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday joined his colleagues Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh and Jaswant Singh, in heaping praise on senior party leader LK Advani.
This is the first time Gadkari has publicly appreciated Advani ever since the latter cricitised his stewardship in a recent blog post.
The occasion was the launch of a book on Advani, written by Mira Govind Advani, mother of former national women commission chief Poornima Advani. Advani, however, declined to be present, telling the author that he would be too “embarrassed” to be present when a book on him is released and praises are showered on him.
Gadkari’s eulogy of Advani came against the backdrop of reports of differences among senior leaders and the latter being upset with him for the RSS move to ensure a second term for him. Gadkari described Advani as one of the “tallest” leaders who had inspired many like him.
Swaraj, a known loyalist of the veteran, said Advani was not like some leaders who cut the “roots” of upcoming leaders and rather nurtured many to reach the top.
Former BJP chief Rajnath Singh said Advani “has always stood for principles. When people cling to their chair even after the CBI held them guilty, Advani quit (as an MP when the hawala scam hit) and waited till his name to be cleared”.
Former minister Jaswant Singh said the country should benefit from his leadership.
