Graduate courses in Business Studies and Business Economics are in demand this year. These courses have been re-structured in the last three years, in keeping with the demands of the present day market.
Experts say with globalisation, these courses prepare students with the changing trends and the needs of the industry. Come July, BA in Business Studies (BBS), a course with a focus on administration that was so far taught solely in Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), will now be taught in two more colleges.
The two Delhi Administration Colleges — Keshav Mahavidyalaya and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya — have broken the monopoly so far enjoyed by SSCBS. S.K. Garg, principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya said, “Subject to written approval from the Delhi government, we shall conduct classes from this academic session.”
Both the colleges are awaiting a written permission. Garg said that since the decision to introduce the BBS courses to the two colleges came after the entrance exams was conducted, the students will be selected form those that appeared for the test at SSCBS.
“The decision on a common entrance test for BBS for next year has not been taken yet,” he said. Similarly, Bachelors in Business Economics (BBE) that was earlier taught in seven colleges will now be introduced in three more — Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa, Gargi and Laxmi Bai. V.K. Kaul, Head, Department of Business Economics said, “It is a unique blend of economics and business. In the globalised context, this is a very relevant course and has all the necessary ingredients to prepare a student for the competitive nature of the market.”
According to D.D. Chaturvedi, Course coordinator, BBE, “This course is strictly not for students who want to pursue chartered accountancy or Company Secretary (CS). This course is a good option for students who are undecided, as this course opens up several options like Business Economics, Business Administration, International business, finance and control, to name a few.” The fact that both BBS and BBE are professional, job-oriented courses is what attracts students. For both the courses, DU has provisions for professional development by way of industrial trips, panel discussions, interviews, summer placements etc.
