Armed motorcyclists intercepted a businessman's car in Nand Nagri of northeast Delhi, fired several rounds at him and decamped with Rs 8 lakh on Monday night.
Police said though they have registered a case of robbery, there were several loopholes in the case . The businessman did not receive any injuries. The businessman, Sandeep Jain, reportedly told police that five men on two motorcycles stopped his car forcibly when he was on his way home.
“Jain told us that the robbers fired several rounds in the air to scare him and then asked him to hand over his bag, containing the cash,” said a senior police officer.
“We have recorded the statement of the complainant and are investigating the case. The place where the incident took place is quite desolate. There were no eyewitnesses and no one heard the gunshots," said the officer.
Police added that though the windowpanes of the car had been smashed, they have called in forensic experts to ascertain how they were broken.
