Unidentified burglars barged into the house of a businessman and decamped with cash and jewellery worth over Rs. 1.5 crore on Sunday in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh, police said.

According to police, the businessman had purchased diamond and gold jewellery items worth over Rs. 1 crore for his brother’s marriage.

The businessman, Manish Gupta, who owns four pipe manufacturing factories, in his complaint told police that his entire family had gone to a banquet hall in Gurgaon to attend his brother’s wedding ceremony.

After the wedding was solemnised, the family returned to their Punjabi Bagh house along with the bride and was shocked to see the entire house ransacked and cash and jewellery missing.

On the basis of Gupta’s complaint, a senior police officer said, a case of burglary was registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station.

Gupta in his complaint had suspected the involvement of some labourers who were engaged in construction work in the front portion of his building.

“Since Gupta raised suspicion on the labourers, we grilled everybody individually but nothing concrete came out from them,” a police officer said.
