A steel factory owner was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Capital in Northwest Delhi on Saturday.
According to police the businessman was shot dead when he tried to resist the assailants from decamping with cash. One of his assistants was also injured in the incident.
The incident occurred at 6.30pm when the deceased Anil Kumar (47) was in his officer in Wazirpur Industrial area.
According to police, Kumar owns a steel goods manufacturing unit. As many as five masked assailants barged into his office armed with countrymade pistols and knives. "Kumar was sitting with his assistant Vinod and going through the ledger books. Suddenly, the assailants entered the office and threatened to kill him. They asked him to give the cash he had in his office," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Police said although the exact amount of cash is yet to be ascertained, around R10 lakh was taken from the spot.
The police said Kumar tried to resist the robbers and entered into a scuffle with them. It was then that one of the robbers allegedly fired at him. The bullet hit Kumar in his chest and he died on the spot. The robbers fled with the cash and it was after that the assistant called the police, who took Kumar to a nearby hospital. He was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities. Police have registered a case of robbery and murder.
