A 42-year-old businessman was robbed of Rs 7 lakh, in addition to some foreign currency, by two unidentified bike-borne assailants in south Delhi on Sunday morning, police said.

The incident, police said, was reported from Lajpat Nagar's L block when the victim, identified as Ramesh Kumar, left his residence on his scooter for his shop located in the Central Market around 10:20am.

"He had reached the main gate of his residential block when the assailants waylaid him," said an officer. Kumar operates a small garments and money exchange business.

As soon as they had him in their sight, police claimed, the duo collided with his scooter to get his attention and snatched Kumar's briefcase. They fired shots in the air before escaping.

In a similar incident on Friday, two bikers robbed Rs 23 lakh from a liquor businessman at Hailey Road. The victim, Sachin Sharma, 26, was returning to his office after collecting payment from north Delhi's Chandni chowk.
