Around 24 Congress politicians in Chhattisgarh have asked the Centre to provide them security after the May 25 attack on the top party leadership in the state.

Politicians — including Mahendra Karma, Chhattisgarh Congress president Nand Kumar Patel and his son and Vidya Charan Shukla — were killed in a Maoist ambush in Darbha valley area of Sukma district in the state.

“We have received around two dozen requests for security from Congress leaders who operate in Maoist-infested districts of the state. Though it wouldn’t be possible to accommodate so many requests, we are coordinating with the Chhattisgarh police to take care of security concerns of these leaders,” said a home ministry official.
