A 22-year-old pub employee working in Gurgaon was allegedly raped by a cab driver in south Delhi’s Mehrauli late on Monday night, police said.
Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the incident first came to light around 4.30 am when the victim approached a constable stationed at a police picket near her residence in Kishangarh area.
“The victim, who works at a Gurgaon bar, had hired a cab from outside the Sahara Mall there after work around 3.30 am,” said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
According to the police, the victim, when she first approached the officer, initially informed him that the cab
driver had snatched her chain.
The police said a PCR van stationed at the picket and an officer from the local police chased the vehicle all the way to Saket only to return empty-handed an hour later. “However, in the morning, the complainant again came to the local police station and alleged that she had been raped by the cab driver. She said he had driven her to a farmhouse in Mehrauli and forced himself upon her,” the officer said.
The victim was rushed to the AIIMS where a medical test confirmed sexual assault. The accused cab driver, Shiv Kumar, 30, was arrested from his residence in Khanpur. “He has been arrested under section 376 of the IPC,” Sharma said.
Despite ban, pubs hire girls
GURGAON: Even though the law restricts them from employing female staff, several pubs, discotheques and bars in the city hire girls to lure customers during night. The girls are told to stand at the podium and escort the guests inside. “A number of attendants and dancers are on the floor. The pubs are open till midnight and girls remain present in the parties till the early hours,” said a bar owner requesting anonymity. HTC
