Call centre employee commits suicide

delhi Updated: Feb 04, 2008 22:10 IST

A 25-year-old woman working for a call centre allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in a rented accommodation in south Delhi, the police said on Monday.

The woman, identified as Ekta, was found hanging on Sunday from the ceiling of her Jia Sarai room, which she had hired five months ago. No suicide note was recovered yet, the police said.

A girl living in the next room found her hanging and informed the police and owner of the apartment, Harichand.

Harichand said: "We talked to each other on Thursday. She said she wanted to leave the room. I didn't see her after that.

"We contacted her father, who stays in east Delhi, to inform him about her, but he was unaware that Ekta was living alone. I suspect family disputes had forced her to take extreme step," he told reporters.

Her parents refused to talk to the media.

The police said the woman's parents were living separately and her younger sister too had committed suicide about a year ago.

"We have registered a case and investigations are underway," a senior police official said.
