A high alert was been sounded and security stepped up across the national Capital after a high intensity blast rocked the Delhi high court premises on Wednesday morning.

Security was beefed up at highly sensitive places including the IGI airport, Delhi Metro stations and popular malls and markets. Security personnel have been alerted to keep on eye out for suspicious object, person or vehicles in these areas.

"All strategic locations, major government establishments and heavily crowded places are under close surveillance. All personnel have been directed to intensify vigil in their respective areas and mobilise all resources," said Deepak Mishra, special commissioner of police (operations).

A senior CISF official said security at the IGI Airport and Delhi Metro was tightened immediately after the explosion took place. "We have intensified checks and frisking of commuters at Metro stations and IGI Airport," said Rohit Katyar, spokesperson of CISF.

Gurgaon: Gurgaon police reacted quickly following the news of the bomb blast in Delhi by upping security in crowded and other places frequented by the common public.

Gurgaon police commissioner SS Deswal said, "I have asked all deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) to monitor security arrangements strictly and take into custody any person if they sense any suspicious activity," said the commissioner.
