Capital to get late monsoon

The light rain showers across Capital on Thursday evening are no harbinger of coming monsoon. In fact, the Met department has said monsoon in Delhi would be delayed.

“The monsoon will be late by at least eight days. It has not even managed to reach all parts of Uttar Pradesh yet. Delhi will have to wait a little longer,” said a Met department official.

However, Thursday’s showers brought relief to Delhiites even as the temperature stayed above the 40 degree mark.

After a hot and humid day, the city experienced a dust storm and rainfall in the evening.

The maximum temperature was recorded as 41.4 degrees Celsius while humidity oscillated between 64 per cent and 35 per cent.

But the brief rain spell brought relief to the parched Delhiites, if only for a day.

“Cool winds had started blowing towards the afternoon and the rainfall in the evening made it all the more better,” said Shravya Patel, a student who resides in Rajinder Nagar.

“The rain felt wonderful after all these days of humid weather. At India Gate and Connaught Place, people came out in droves to enjoy the cool weather.

“I just hope the good weather continues into the weekend,” said Parul Jain, who works in a multinational company.

The Met department forecast for Friday is partly cloudy sky, with possibility of light rains and dust storms.

The maximum temperature will hover around 42 degrees Celsius while minimum will be around 31 degrees.
