Five incidents of robbery and snatching were reported from different parts of the capital within 12 hours. This comes at a time when security is at an all-time high in Delhi for the Independence Day celebrations.

In the first incident, a property dealer was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Gokulpuri in northeast Delhi as he stepped out of a car showroom where he had gone to buy a car, police said.

Police said Sheetal Kumar was robbed when he was coming out of the showroom around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday.

"Kumar stepped out of the showroom with one of his relatives when four men on two motorcycles tried to snatch his bag. When Kumar resisted, they whipped out a country-made pistol and snatched the bag," said a senior police officer.

"We are registering a case and verifying the claims of the complainant. There are few discrepancies in the complainant's version. He called the police a good one-and-a-half hour after the incident," said S.S. Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (northeast).

In the second incident, around 9.30 p.m. on Thursday, a man was allegedly robbed of R 40,000 when he withdrew the money from an Axis bank

ATM in Jyoti Nagar in northeast Delhi. Shakir, who works for an MNC, was robbed by motorcycle-borne men. The police have registered a case.

On Thursday night, three snatchings were reported from Kalyanpuri in east Delhi.

A man was reportedly stabbed and robbed of R 10,000 near Chand Cinema in Paharganj area of central Delhi on Thursday night, police said.

A few minutes later, Rajesh, a local resident, was stabbed and his purse and mobile phone snatched. Another person was robbed of R 500 half an hour later, police said. Police suspect the involvement of the same gang in the crime.
