A Maruti Alto caught fire in Connaught Place near Scindia House at around 3 pm. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
However, shopkeepers and eye witnesses alleged that the fire tenders reached the spot half-an-hour late though the fire station is minutes away. No one was injured.
Fire officials, however, rubbished the shopkeepers’ claims stating there was a delay of 15 minutes as the fire tenders from the fire station at Super Bazaar had been sent to CGO complex as a fire had broken out there, too.
“We had to send fire tenders from Rakab Ganj fire station. When the fire tender from Rakab Ganj reached Minto Road there was a traffic jam due to the fire that had taken place. It took at least 15 minutes for the fire tenders to reach the spot and the situation was completely under control,” said a senior Delhi Fire Service officer.
