Max Super Speciality Hospital in south Delhi ’s Saket suspended the doctor accused of molesting a dentist at a heart camp on Sunday morning.

“Post the internal fact-finding enquiry, we have suspended the doctor. As a responsible healthcare provider, we have already set into motion anti-sexual harassment proceedings in accordance with the principles of corporate governance. Max Healthcare is fully cooperating with the law enforcement authorities. We have reiterated our ‘zero tolerance’ towards policy violations pertaining to medical ethics amongst our physicians,” said the Max Hospital authorities in a statement.

The HT on Tuesday had broken the story that a 30-year-old female doctor, who runs a private dental clinic in Hauz Rani Village , had accused a senior resident in the department of cardiology at Max Hospital of molesting her at the hospital, where she had gone for a cardio test, at the pretext of physical examination. She and her husband, who is also a doctor at the Majeedia Hospital attached to the Hamdard University , first complained to the hospital administration and then lodged a police complaint.

“The senior resident has been with Max Hospital for the last four months and there have been no complaints against him,” said a hospital source.

While the hospital has instituted an official enquiry, the police have lodged an FIR under section 354 (molestation) of IPC against the doctor. The police arrested the senior resident and later released him on bail “as it was a non-cognisable offence”.

The accused doctor could not be reached for comment.
