As the industry responds to new business needs, it will continue to evolve into a mature profession, a profession versatile enough to adapt to new demands and stable enough to support new innovations and developments.

To put it broadly, the opportunities in IT are:

Animation and Gaming: Animation is increasingly becoming popular across all channels of entertainment and multimedia. It has also become the hottest New Age career for today. India is fast going up the animation-outsourcing ladder.

Though a recent entrant in the global animation scene, demand for India's production services is growing at a fast pace. Animation Application Areas include Entertainment (Movies, Television), Business (Marketing Demos, Product Promos), Sales (Presentations), Education (CBT's/ WBT's), Tourism (Kiosks), Publishing (Graphics & Printing), Web Design, Virtual Reality for Simulations in Defense, engineering, Advertising (Commercials, Print Ad's), Interiors and Fashion Design.

Web Development: Web development comprises a set of functions that include building, designing, and supporting websites. Some overlap - such as programming and database administration. Others, such as Web design and content management.

Content Development: Content developers are the main resource providers for the web. A content developer writes, edit and collates information that appears on the website. Responsible to generate data for a successful web site.

Computer programming: Computer programmers write, test, and maintain the detailed instructions, called programs that computers must follow to perform their functions.

Database Administrator / Management: Database administrators typically work with database management systems software to effectively extract data and present that data in an understandable fashion. Is also responsible for understanding performance, modification, security and the platform on which the database system is running.

System Administration / Implementation: System Administrators are responsible for setting up servers, configuring space for webbased projects, setting up of working e-mail accounts and mailing lists, management and integration of databases, implementing security on the Intranet/Extranet, setting up of firewalls and authorisation systems, performing periodic backup of data and automating reporting tasks.

Networking: Networking helps organisations share information, efficiently access the Internet and intranet and work collaboratively. They are also responsible for monitoring files in the main computer server on regular basis, setting up of system security and maintaining back-up files. Besides this, the IT professionals can also look at career options in Network Systems and Data Communication, Technical Writing, Hardware Design, Quality Assurance, Call Center Support, Internet/Intranet development, E-commerce, Technical Support, IT Training, Help Desk/ End User Support.
