“If my two colleagues are guilty, then send me to jail too,” said senior BJP leader LK Advani as he dared the government in the Lok Sabha on Thursday to act against him, signalling the BJP’s offensive on the cash-for-votes scam of 2008.
“They were whistleblowers who honestly reported the matter in the House. They presented the money. That time, I was leader of the Opposition and I know the facts,” he said, putting up a strong defence for former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora who have been jailed along with Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh in connection with the scam.
Raising both hands, Advani asked the government to handcuff him instead of the two former BJP MPs.
The MPs were sent to Tihar jail three days ago along with Amar Singh after being charged with accepting a bribe to vote in favour of a trust motion moved by the Manmohan Singh government in the Lok Sabha on July 22, 2008.
“I believe that these two members have done a great service to democracy by bringing to Parliament the R1 crore given to them,” Advani said.
