In what is an admission of the fact that its eight-month-old probe is still stuck due to lack of material evidence, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs One lakh to anyone providing clues in the Aarushi-Hemraj murders.
The CBI needs clues leading to the recovery of crime weapon(s), the victims’ mobile phones and a key ring linked to the crime scene.
These articles, according to the investigative agency, were taken away by the alleged accused from the scene of crime.
Incidentally, the advertisement about the cash reward is a reiteration of an earlier offer made on September 9 by the agency’s Deputy Director (Coordination) Neerja Gotru, a day before the agency missed the 90-day deadline for submitting charge sheet in the case.
The murders of Aarushi Talwar (14) and her family’s domestic help Hemraj occurred on the intervening night of May 15 and 16 at L-32, Jalvayu Vihar, Sector 25, Noida.
On Saturday HT had reported the CBI's search for material evidence and apprehension that its probe might get delayed further since it missed the chance of interrogating a case accused, Raj Kumar, who it had called from Nepal.
