CBI has arrested a customs inspector here for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant in lieu of releasing a bank guarantee.
Inspector Vimil Kumar Sirohi of the Customs and Central Excise was arrested yesterday while accepting the bribe of Rs 8,000 at his Central Revenue building office in the national capital from an accountant of a private firm, a CBI spokesperson said.
The accountant in his complaint to the investigating agency has accused Sirohi of demanding the bribe in order to clear a bank guarantee on an earlier deposit of Rs 1,00,000 which expired on March 10 this year.
The agency also conducted searches at the office and residence of Sirohi and seized Rs 36,00 cash while documents related to immovable properties, bank accounts and life insurance policies were recovered, the spokesperson said.
Sirohi was later produced before a court and was remanded to judicial custody till June 4.
