The CBI has arrested an official of the Delhi Police for allegedly demanding a bribe to register an FIR.

“Assistant Sub-Inspector Tej Singh of Bindapur police station was caught while accepting Rs 10,000 as part of his first installment of the bribe he had asked for,” a CBI spokesperson said.

Singh belonged to the South-West District police and had demanded Rs 20,000 for registering an FIR on behalf of the complainant, the agency said.

“Two parties were involved in a property dispute and one of them had apparently filed some false documents in the court. Hence, the other party wanted the police to register an FIR in this matter but the ASI asked for Rs 20,000 to do the same,” a CBI official said.

Based on the complaint received by the agency, it had laid a trap and Singh was caught while accepting the first installment, the official said.

He said that searches were also conducted at Singh’s residential and official premises and alleged that property documents for which the FIR was to be registered were also recovered.
